There's a new blog, The Art of American Book Covers, that I'll probably be frequenting more and more. One of their latest posts was a discussion of an iconic book cover of 1876 (pictured above). It's titled The New Day: A Poem in Songs and Sonnets, by Richard Watson Gilder.
